MEN'S ARTISTIC SECTION

Our Men's Artistic section classes are detailed below and the associated diagram shows how gymnasts may move between this pathway and the General Gymnastics Pathway.

BOYS FLOOR AND VAULT PATHWAY

(1.5 to 5 hours per week)

This is the first level of competitive pathway and focuses on developing gymnasts to compete at Scottish Floor and Vault Competitions.  The Floor and Vault pathway may be of particular interest where gymnastics is not a child’s only choice of Sport, but a desire is shown to train and compete.   As progress is made along this pathway they may begin to work on all Six pieces of apparatus to further develop strength and stability.  Gymnasts who continue to show significant progress in the intermediate floor and vault class may progress into a MA Development Class and occasionally gymnasts transition from our FV Advanced classes into our MA Club Grades Pathway.

MENS’S ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY

(2-6 Hours per week)

Boys from as young as 4 years old are selected to join our development classes.  In this pathway they will train and develop skills on all 6 pieces of apparatus – floor, pommels, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar. Once in a development squad the gymnasts will follow a training programme designed to build flexibility, strength, and coordination which will allow them to develop the core required skills in the later stages of the programme. Gymnasts will begin to compete in floor and vault competition at 6 years old to better prepare them for regional and national grades competitions from the age of 8. Regular attendance is very important for all gymnasts.

At any point where the coach or gymnast feels that the progress and/or commitment is falling behind the requirements, then a parents meeting will be arranged to discuss options to help the gymnast get back on track and/or options for their future training.  Please remember every gymnast develops at differing rates and it is not unusual for gymnasts to alter their pathways/training schedule during their time in gymnastics.

 CLUB GRADES PATHWAY

This pathway gives boys the opportunity to compete in the National Development plan on the Club Grades Pathway as well as developing their voluntary skills for national competitions. In order to be successful a Club squad gymnast will need to attend regularly and be committed to their training programme.  Gymnasts will train up to 16 hours per week to achieve success in club grades so this requires significant commitment from both gymnast and their family.

To remain on the Club pathway gymnasts must show ongoing development and this will be closely monitored by our coaches.

ELITE GRADES PATHWAY

This pathway gives boys the opportunity to compete in the National Development plan on the Elite Grades Pathway as well as developing their voluntary skills for national competitions. This branch of gymnastics is extremely demanding and requires very high levels of commitment by both gymnasts and their family with the boys training in excess of 18 hours per week.  Lasswade Gymnastics Club set high targets for our elite gymnasts and expects our gymnasts to embrace our club values within that program.  Elite gymnasts are expected to attend all training sessions, camps and holiday programmes to ensure that they remain on track in this highly selective and challenging competitive pathway.

To remain on the Elite pathway gymnasts must show consistent ongoing development and this will be closely monitored by our coaches.

VOLUNTARIES

When boys reach the Voluntary pathway their focus will be on Scottish Championships and British Voluntary events leading to British Championships selections for the most successful of gymnasts.  Gymnasts will train at least 16 hours per week so this requires significant commitment from both gymnast and their family.  Lasswade Gymnastics Club set high targets for our voluntary gymnasts and we expect them to embrace our club values within that program.
